X (formerly Twitter) rolled out a new location feature over the weekend, which reveals details about a particular account, including where it’s from and when it was created. It also reveals the region and country of the accounts that post frequently about American politics. Head of product Nikita Bier also took to X to share further details on this latest feature.
X (Twitter) now showcases account’s location
Bier shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the platform has launched a new feature globally that enables users to see the information about which country or region the account is based in. He wrote, “This will be accessible by tapping the signup date on profiles. This is an important first step to securing the integrity of the global town square. We plan to provide many more ways for users to verify the authenticity of the content they see on X.”
He also revealed what the accounts based in countries with restricted speech could do to disable this feature. “And for those in countries where speech has penalties, we’ve included privacy toggles to only show your region,” he added. Thanking all those involved in making this feature roll out, he mentioned, “This was a huge undertaking. A special thanks to the engineers who made this happen: @sandeep_rao @singhai @mingsong @striedinger @rzhao0506.”
Following the new feature rollout, many users noticed that accounts that post about President Donald Trump and support the MAGA campaign aren’t based in the US. For instance, an account named MAGA Nation regularly posts about American politics. However, as per their account information, the account was made in April 2024 and is based in Eastern Europe. It was verified the same month it was created, and its username has been changed five times, with the most recent change in September 2025. Other similar political accounts were also based outside the U.S., including in countries such as Bangladesh and India.
