Michael B. Jordan is thriving in the spotlight as a top-tier actor, director, and producer with international appeal, but when it comes to sharing his personal life, he’s drawing a firm line. While plenty of celebrities have joined TikTok to stay in the public eye all the time, the Sinners star isn’t interested.
Michael B. Jordan talks about not joining TikTok
In a recent chat with Vanity Fair, Michael B. Jordan explained why fans shouldn’t expect to catch him on TikTok anytime soon. For him, the app demands constant sharing, and that’s not how he wants to live off-set.
Jordan says he occupies a unique spot between generations, old enough to remember life before everyone had a phone glued to their hand, but young enough to get just how huge social media is in pop culture. “Man, I’m born in ’87,” he said, calling himself a bridge between the pre-digital era and today’s always-online world.
For the 38-year-old, it’s not just a matter of preference. It’s about protecting what’s important in his life. Being on TikTok would mean sharing personal moments, and that’s a trade he’s not willing to make.
Jordan makes it clear that acting has its place, and it’s not in his personal life. He said, “I’m not trying to act in all elements of my life. That’s the day job, you know?” Keeping his personal identity separate from his public persona helps him stay grounded, authentic, and true to himself.
The Black Panther star prefers staying connected the old-school way with a group chat. He claims he always uses the group chat to catch up on what’s been happening. Jordan also laughs at the memories of being the butt of the joke, but says the chats help keep him grounded. “You get a chance to scroll back and say, ‘What is going on here?’ Then you realize that you were a topic of discussion for a whole two days—that they were roasting your ass.”
As for fans hoping he might join TikTok one day? Don’t count it. Michael B. Jordan is more committed than ever to keeping parts of his life real, private, and offline.
