Matt Damon reveals Tom Holland arranged screening of a classic movie for The Odyssey cast

Matt Damon shared the story in a new interview with Empire magazine. He said that while they were filming at Sony, Holland wanted the cast to watch Lawrence of Arabia on 70mm film. Because Holland is such a favorite at the studio, he personally called Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman.

Damon explained that Sony hosted the screening on a Sunday and showed the entire four-hour movie. He said, “We were at Sony, and [studio head] Tom Rothman has one of the pristine 70-mil prints of that movie.”

He added that Holland, who is a studio favorite because he plays Spider-Man, easily convinced Rothman to set up the screening. “And Tom Holland, because he’s Spider-Man and he’s everybody’s favourite at that studio, called Rothman and he arranged for us to screen it on a Sunday, the full four hours.”

Holland is set to play Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope. Christopher Nolan’s new movie also stars Matt Damon, who leads the film as Odysseus. The cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita N’yongo, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, and many more.

The movie is described as a mythic action epic, which will follow Odysseus’ long, dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. The Odyssey will release in theaters on July 17, 2026.
