Man Who Cryogenically Froze Wife Faces Backlash Over New GF — Report

The man who froze his wife in China is now making headlines yet again. He is facing fresh criticism after reports suggest that he has moved on with a new partner. This is despite keeping his spouse’s body in a cold storage facility. The story has sparked online interest about themes such as grief, responsibility, and how people cope with loss in the age of experimental science.

Man who cryogenically froze his wife to cure cancer finds a new partner

The story starts with the man in 2017, who cryogenically froze his wife Zhan Wenlian. She was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer at the time. Wenlian soon became widely reported as China’s first person to be stored in a clinical cryogenic facility. Her body remains in a -196°C unit at the Shandinh Yinfeng Lofe Science Research Institute. The institute says that her cellular structure is stable. However, she has been declared clinically dead.

Chinese outlets reported this month that the husband, Junmin, has been living with a new girlfriend. Her name is Wang Chun-Sha, and the two got together in 2020. He told the reporters that he spent two years alone before meeting his current partner. The Maeil Business Newspaper revealed that Junmin was facing health problems. He suffered a gout attack that left him immobile, and he was found two days later after relatives broke down his door.

Junmin says that these practical reasons compelled him to find a partner. However, the man who froze his wife claims that he still loves his wife; however, this is a complicated matter for him.

The whole situation has sparked a debate online. One person said, “Now he is holding one woman in his arms while hoping to reunite with another in 30 years. What is this: emotional polygamy?” Another noted, “If that is the case, why start a new relationship? If you do, why not treat your new partner with genuine care? This kind of so-called devotion is not noble; it is selfish.”
