Despite the absence, Erivo and Grande did make a brief appearance on the official E! livestream of the event, where they shared a few words. Since Erivo was coping with a vocal strain, it was Grande who was given the microphone.
During the chat, the “We Can’t Be Friends” hitmaker stood by her co-star and declared, “I’m not letting her speak. She has to rest her voice!” The star went on to talk about Wicked’s upcoming sequel and their experiences working on it.
At multiple moments, Grande did her best to answer the questions on behalf of Erivo, making sure she was accurately expressing her co-star’s thoughts. The singer also gushed about Erivo’s upcoming projects, a new solo album, and her book “Simply More.”
At one point, host Justin Sylvester asked how the actresses were feeling about concluding the musical duology. Speaking for Erivo, Grande hoped that they both shared a sense of “overwhelming gratitude.”
“It’s been such an incredible ride and an incredible experience to create with people we love so much and respect so much creatively, but also who just have such great hearts,” Grande added.
Despite struggling with her vocal issues, Erivo managed to say a few words about the movie. “It’s really beautiful that we’re finishing here, where it started,” the singer and actress shared. Erivo was referring to New York City, where the first-ever production of Stephen Schwartz’s original stage musical Wicked debuted in 2003.
Wicked: For Good comes out in theaters on Friday, November 21, 2025.
