Mason Thames ‘Honored’ to Match Jim Carrey’s Box-Office Achievement

Mason Thames responded to a comment about achieving a similar box office milestone that Jim Carrey previously held alone all these years. After back-to-back success in 2025, Thames admitted to still trying to “absorb” it all. He added that he feels “honored” to be included in the same “space” as the Ace Ventura star.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 16th Governors Awards in Los Angeles, Mason Thames shared how he felt about having three successful movies in the same year, an achievement matched only by veteran actor Jim Carrey.

“It’s crazy. I mean, I still don’t really have the words for it,” The Black Phone star shared. “Just to be considered in that space and the same room as Jim Carrey is unheard of. I’m just honored, and it’s still so crazy to me. So, I’m still trying to absorb and take it the best I can. But yeah, it’s wild.”

When asked if The Truman Show actor reached out to congratulate him, Thames replied, “I’m not sure. I don’t think he did, but not that he needed to in the first place. But yeah, I love him so much. He’s such an icon to me, and he’s my childhood. So, love him to death.

In 2025, Mason Thames appears in three highly successful box office movies. First, he starred as Hiccup in DreamWorks’ live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. He then reprised his role as Finney Blake in the horror sequel Black Phone 2. Finally, he portrayed Miller Adams in the adaptation of Coleen Hoover’s highly acclaimed book Regretting You.

Previously, Jim Carrey achieved this historic box office feat in 1994 with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber, all released in the same year. More than three decades later, these films continue to have a dedicated cult following, underscoring Carrey’s incredible legacy.
