Alicia Silverstone Gets Emotional Recalling Late Mother’s Clueless Cameo

Alicia Silverstone recently reflected on her late mother’s cameo in the 1995 film Clueless. It is a coming-of-age comedy directed by Amy Heckerling. On November 12, Silverstone attended a screening of Clueless in New York, celebrating its 30th anniversary. During a Q&A session post-screening, Silverstone reportedly got emotional as she revisited her mother’s role.

The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, New York, held a 30th anniversary screening for the 1995 teen comedy Clueless. Alicia Silverstone, who played Cher in the film, attended the screening and participated in a Q&A session later. During the session, Silverstone recounted her late mother’s cameo in the film.

As per PEOPLE, Silverstone explained her mother’s appearance in the film, saying, “There’s a wedding scene — my mom is in the back and she died, this night, six years ago.” The actress mentioned that it was also her mother’s 6th death anniversary that night, making it extra special for her. “So it’s really lovely to have, because I love her and miss her, and so it was very moving to see that moment and go like, ‘Oh my god, there’s my mommy,’ and tonight’s the night,” she added. Silverstone continued to share how her mother would be very happy to know the screening was happening, especially on such a special night.

Clueless is a modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, following the teenage life of Cher Horowitz in the role of Emma Woodhouse. In 1996 a Clueless TV series came out on ABC, running for 3 seasons, with Rachel Blanchard playing the lead role of Cher.

In April this year, there were reports of a Clueless reboot, with Silverstone reprising her role as Cher in a TV series for Peacock. Silverstone soon took to Instagram to post a still of Cher from the 1995 Clueless film with the caption, “Totally buggin’… in the best way (Swipe to see why),” followed by a screenshot of a Variety report.
