Sally Kirkland was best known for sharing the screen with Paul Newman and Robert Redford in The Sting and for her Oscar-nominated role in Anna. However, many have forgotten that she was also part of the famed soap opera Days of Our Lives.

While her stint on the show was short and her role limited, she made quite an impression as Tracey Simpson. She appeared in the storyline where Sami Brady was framed for the murder of Franco Kelly. Sami escaped police custody during a transport mix-up and ended up at the door of the eccentric Tracey, who helped her evade the law.

Many longtime Days of Our Lives fans remember Sally Kirkland’s contribution to the series.

According to reports, Sally Kirkland had fractured four bones in her neck, right wrist, and left hip. While recovering from these injuries, she developed infections that required hospitalization and rehabilitation. Her friends set up a GoFundMe account this fall to help her manage the medical expenses.

Kirkland was born in New York City on October 31, 1941. She was involved with the craft for many years. She began as a model and studied acting at The Actors Studio. There she trained under the guidance of Lee Strasberg and Uta Hagen. In 1963, she made her off-Broadway debut and soon followed it up with the underground film 13 Most Beautiful Women.

Over her expansive career, she earned more than 250 credits. Some of her notable works include Going Home, JFK, Big Bad Mama, Pipe Dreams, A Star Is Born, The Island, Richard III, and, most recently, 80 for Brady, which was her final film role.
