Two members of the Guardians team are reportedly expected to shape the storyline of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. A new report suggests their connection to past events could play a crucial role in the unfolding multiversal narrative.
Gamora won’t return in Avengers 5 but her presence will be felt
Alex Perez claimed during The Cosmic Circus November 2025 Q&A that Gamora will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. When asked about the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup, Perez stated, “Gamora is going to be out of the picture.” He stated that her absence is part of the larger multiversal context. He claimed that Gamora’s “presence” will still influence the story, saying it will serve “as an example regarding how the barriers between the universes have been eroding since the Gamora we see in Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is not from our universe/timeline per se.”
Perez noted he has “not heard much about the Guardians aside from Star-Lord,” suggesting that Chris Pratt’s character may still have a limited role in Avengers: Doomsday. He reminded readers that earlier reports stated Star-Lord was “previously supposed to be involved.” This leaves the possibility of his return in some capacity open. Perez did not mention Rocket, Groot, Nebula, Drax, or Mantis in connection with the upcoming Avengers installments.
The Q&A further addressed returning legacy characters and trailer expectations. Perez confirmed that major outlets had already reported Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s appearances in Avengers: Doomsday, adding, “Maybe they’ll drop them in the trailer to keep the lid on any other character confirmations.” He also claimed that Marvel plans to release a teaser for Avengers: Doomsday by early to mid-December.
Through these details, Gamora’s absence could still carry narrative importance. Her storyline from Avengers: Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues to represent the MCU’s ongoing exploration of variant timelines and the collapsing boundaries of the multiverse.
Marvel will release Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars in 2027.
