Sydney Sweeney Reacts to Christy Tanking at Box Office

Actress Sydney Sweeney has reacted after her latest film, Christy, tanked at the box office. The biographical sports drama, which tells the story of boxer Christy Martin, opened on November 7 in the U.S. but earned just $1.3 million during its debut weekend.

Despite the film’s disappointing commercial performance, Christy has received positive audience reviews. The movie currently holds a 97% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting strong viewer appreciation for both its story and Sweeney’s performance.

Sweeney addressed Christy’s box office results and expressed pride in the project in an Instagram post. She wrote, “Thank you to everyone who saw, felt, and believed and will believe in this story for years to come. If Christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded.”

The Euphoria star also acknowledged that Christy was never just about box office success. “So yes I’m proud. why? Because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life. thank you christy. I love you,” the caption further read.

The film chronicles Christy Martin’s rise in the boxing world and her struggles with domestic violence at the hands of her husband and trainer, James Martin, played by Ben Foster. Sweeney called the story one of “survival, courage, and hope,” noting that the film’s outreach campaigns have helped raise awareness for survivors of domestic violence.

“This film stands for survival, courage, and hope,” she wrote, along with some behind-the-scenes photos from the set. “Through our campaigns, we’ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy’s story could save lives,” she added.
