David Beckham was recently honored with a knighthood by King Charles. And it seems they both bonded over their ‘estranged’ sons during the ceremony on Tuesday. According to sources, the monarch understood his pain as he knew “what it means to love a son you barely see.”

David Beckham received his knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday for his contributions to sport and charity. While most of his family members were present to witness the ceremony, his eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, was missing from the family portrait. And King Charles could relate to his pain.

Sources told #ShuterScoop that the monarch and the player later bonded over their ‘estranged’ sons. “David smiled for the cameras, but everyone felt the ache,” a guest told the outlet. “His heart wasn’t whole.”

The place aide also echoed the same thoughts, saying that the monarch sympathised with his pain. “They spoke afterward — both fathers understand what it means to love a son you barely see.”

To witness the “special day,” David’s wife, Victoria Beckham, was at the Castle along with their three kids, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. Even David’s parents were present to see him receive the honor. But they certainly felt the void, as their eldest son, Brooklyn, was not there.

“Victoria’s heart is broken over Brooklyn’s snub,” a source close to the Beckhams told RadarOnline.com.

As per the insider, the fashion designer “tried everything to mend the relationship, but this feels like the final blow. Watching David receive such an honor without Brooklyn there – it was devastating for them both.”

The tipster further added that the player was “holding it together publicly, but behind closed doors, it hit him hard.” The former England captain “always believed family comes first, and seeing his eldest so distant on such a monumental day was painful.”

Nevertheless, to celebrate the day, the family reportedly gathered in a pub in the Cotswolds. Celebrity pals Guy Ritchie and Gary Neville were also present at the party. As per Metro, Cruz reportedly sang for his father with a line: “King Charles came to David Beckham and knighted him my man.”
