Taylor Lautner‘s role in Twilight is perhaps his most famous on-screen appearance, but the actor almost lost the part for a bizarre reason. In a recent appearance on The Squeeze podcast, the star discussed his time in the Twilight franchise with Nikki Reed, who was also a part of the cast.
Here’s why Lautner was nearly let go from the role in Twilight.
Taylor Lautner reveals he ‘needed to grow abs to’ get his Twilight job back
Taylor Lautner played Jacob Black in all the Twilight films, but this almost didn’t happen. This is because in the Twilight books, Jacob becomes physically big and muscular from the second book on, as he turns into a werewolf.
Lautner discussed this with Nikki Reed when the latter appeared on Taylor Dome‘s’ The Squeeze podcast. When Reed praised Lautner’s dedication to having abs and such a muscular frame at such a young age, Lautner responded with honesty. He revealed that he had to maintain that physique to avoid losing his role in the franchise.
“I got fired. I literally got fired, and I needed to grow abs to get my job back,” Lautner revealed.
As it turns out, the team originally decided on casting someone older and more built for the role to suit the novels after the first film. But Lautnet put in the hard work and managed to build a physique that matched the novels. Reed added that Lautner “worked really, really hard to prove that [he was] dedicated to whatever that role might need and [he] did such a great job.”
Reed added, “I always felt such love. And I was so proud of you, and I wanted to always champion that,” about Lautner. She claimed that she felt protective of him from the start.
Lautner went on to do a brilliant job as Jacob Black in the franchise and is now widely remembered for the role.
