Filmmaker Yi Zhou has accused actor Jeremy Renner of behavior that she says left her feeling frightened and unsafe during their work together. Yi collaborated with Renner on a documentary and an animated movie. Now, she has shared claims in a detailed interview, after posting a series of statements on social media earlier this week.

According to Yi Zhou’s statements in The Daily Mail, the incident happened while the pair were meeting at Jeremy Renner’s home to discuss one of their projects. Yi told the outlet that Renner drank heavily and became enraged during the conversation.
She said, “I was discussing about the doc logistics, then he drank a bottle of wine alone and got angry,” and he reportedly yelled “for two hours.” The filmmaker added, “I had to lock myself in a room to be safe praying he would not come into the room at night as he was really angry.” Moreover, she was “scared for her life,” hence she “did not say a word.”
Yi claimed she shared her location with her team, her parents, as well as Disney colleagues that evening out of fear for her safety. She shared the text messages with the outlet. They showed her colleagues urging her to lock herself in the bathroom.
She also claimed Renner had previously sent her “personal and intimate photographs of himself” and sexually explicit videos, which she provided to the Daily Mail. Yi said the actor approached her romantically after contacting her in June and later turned aggressive when their relationship soured.
In her Instagram statement, Yi said, “It is with deep regret, sadness, and disappointment that I am compelled to share a truth I have been holding inside for too long.” She urged, “No woman, filmmaker, or creative should have to work under such emotional and psychological pressure.”
Yi Zhou says her goal in coming forward against Jeremy Renner is to protect her work. She also wishes to speak out against what she calls unacceptable behavior in the entertainment industry.
