R-Rated Action Sequel With 95% Rotten Tomatoes Score Gets Franchise Update

The action genre continues to dominate headlines as one of this year’s most violent sequels achieves major success with critics. Following its strong 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and impressive box office numbers, the future of the Sisu franchise has become a key topic of discussion. Director Jalmari Helander has now shared what could lie ahead for Jorma Tommila’s battle-scarred hero.

Jalmari Helander teases Sisu 3, says trouble could find Aatami again

According to MovieWeb’s exclusive interview, director Jalmari Helander discussed the future of the Sisu franchise following the release of Sisu: Road to Revenge.

He called the sequel’s ending both “an ending and a rebirth,” explaining that while the story feels complete, there is still room for Aatami Korpi’s return. Helander said, “I don’t know yet. For me, it feels like a perfect ending also. Like, maybe Aatomi may have found something that whatever piece or purpose he could have anymore, maybe that’s their thing, but I don’t know, maybe trouble finds him again.”

Helander, who directed and wrote both Sisu films, reflected on the sequel’s symbolic final scene, which shows Aatami “tearing down his home and rebuilding it elsewhere.” The filmmaker revealed, “When I had the idea for the last scene, it really changed the game for me because I knew that it would elevate the film to a different level, and that’s something I’m most proud of the film also.”

The original Sisu introduced Jorma Tommila as Aatami Korpi, an ex-Finnish commando-turned-prospector who fights Nazis after they steal his gold. Sisu: Road to Revenge continues his story as he hunts the Red Army commander responsible for his family’s death.

The film achieved a 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating and strong box office numbers, suggesting audience demand for another installment. Helander’s comments indicate that while no third film is confirmed, the possibility of Aatami’s return remains open.
