Sarah Paulson Reveals ‘Controversial’ Take on American Horror Story

Sarah Paulson has been the backbone of American Horror Story for years, the ultimate scream queen who’s done it all. Appearing in multiple seasons, she’s practically the face of Ryan Murphy’s horror empire. However, even for someone as iconic as Paulson, not every season hits the mark. In a recent interview, the Emmy winner revealed which AHS season she wishes she could skip, and her confession has fans completely split.

Sarah Paulson discloses her least favorite American Horror Story season

During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live on November 4, Sarah Paulson was asked which American Horror Story season she liked the least. With a playful grin and a sip of her drink, she confessed, “This is going to be controversial because a lot of people love it. But I’m going to vote… Roanoke.”

Her answer even caught host Andy Cohen off guard, but Paulson simply laughed it off and said, “It wasn’t for me.” Naturally, the internet exploded soon after, and fans immediately jumped into debate mode over where Roanoke ranks in AHS canon.

Season six, titled Roanoke, was a curveball for American Horror Story. Instead of the show’s usual format, it went with a mockumentary approach with My Roanoke Nightmare, following Shelby Miller (played by Lily Rabe) as she shared her haunting run-ins with the supernatural.

Sarah Paulson played Audrey Tindall, the actress portraying Shelby in the reenactments. Fans even got a surprise cameo from Paulson’s Asylum character, Lana Winters, in the finale.

There’s no doubt that Roanoke has always been one of the fandom’s biggest hot topics. Some loved its found-footage style while others missed the more gothic, character-driven storytelling that made Murder House and Coven fan favorites.

When Andy Cohen asked the actress if she’d ever come back to AHS, she kept things vague, saying, “Maybe.”
