In a recent interview, the Daytime Emmy Award winner joined director Sterlin Harjo to discuss the conclusion of The Lowdown Season 1 and the potential for future installments.

When asked about whether the second season offered closure or if there were plans to continue the story, Ethan Hawke spoke candidly with Collider about his experience working on the series. He reflected on the creative process behind The Lowdown, explaining that he joined the project before a script was even completed.

Hawke explained, “Sterlin wrote it, so he can’t say this, but as the person who jumped off a cliff with him, not knowing where the story was going because I had to say yes to this project before there was any script to read, one of the things that makes me so happy is how the show ends.”

The 54-year-old thespian also described the Season 2 finale as one of “my favorite things I’ve ever done,” calling it “satisfying.” He added, “What’s fun about it is that it works like a crime novel. It’s extremely satisfying, and you want to see where the hero goes next.”

Hawke also acknowledged the influence of writer Walter Mosley, who is part of Harjo’s creative team. He drew a comparison to Mosley’s Easy Rawlins series, noting each story in that series stands on its own. The Black Phone star added, “But you get to know the characters and the world, and you see friends reappear and not reappear.”

Ethan Hawke concluded, “I think we could have a great future with it, and we might even only get better at it.” Harjo agreed, adding simply, “Yeah, that’s what the plan is.”

The Lowdown debuted on FX on September 23, 2025, with the season finale set to air on November 4.
