Sydney Sweeney‘s American Eagle jeans ad controversy feels long behind her, though Sharon Stone couldn’t help but speak out in her favor. Earlier this year, the former faced significant backlash from critics and netizens for an ad campaign with the apparel brand. Now Stone, who just attended the Variety Power of Women event, addressed the debate and defended Sweeney. The industry veteran spoke in her favor and showed support.
Sharon Stone defends Sydney Sweeney over American Eagle jeans ad controversy
Sharon Stone recently came to Sydney Sweeney’s defense after her American Eagle jeans ad controversy. Stone, while attending the Variety Power of Women event, spoke to the publication‘s Angelique Jackson on the carpet, claiming that it’s fine “to use what mama gave you.” Stone then weighed in on how “hard” it is to “be hot,” and that it’s completely okay to “use every bit of hotness you have.”
The “Basic Instinct” star opined that people have their own “kind of hotness, their own certain thing,” and urged everybody to “go for that.” Stone then recounted a discussion she had with Sweeney when the controversy was still drawing attention and they were working on the “Euphoria” Season 3 production. She seemingly provided her now co-star crucial advice on dealing with backlash, such as the one stemming from her American Eagle jeans campaign.
Stone even drew a comparison between Sweeney’s jeans ad controversy and one of Jane Goodall’s experiences. Reportedly, scientists had implied that Goodall, an acclaimed anthropologist, only made it to the cover of Life Magazine because “she had good legs.” Stone recalled telling Sweeney about it, who said she certainly made a billion dollars for the brand, and that she’s “good with that” and can “get another job.”
The actors have recently started working together on the third season of the hit HBO series, with Stone being among the new additions to the cast.
