SNL’s Kate McKinnon Wanted to ‘Tongue’ All Cast Members Before Exit

Kate McKinnon recently discussed the early plans for her final sketch on Saturday Night Live. During her time on SNL, McKinnon always came up with the most hilarious sketch ideas. She worked on the show for a decade and left viewers with numerous comically memorable moments. Now, in a podcast appearance with Amy Poehler, she reveals how she almost kissed every cast member during her final sketch of the show.

Kate McKinnon’s initial pitch for SNL last episode involved kissing every cast member

Kate McKinnon recently spoke to Amy Poehler on the latter’s Good Hang podcast. Soon after talking about trim carpentry and making furniture, Poehler asked McKinnon about her last show on SNL. The host recalled how she remembered McKinnon’s final sketch as feeling compelling and moving. However, McKinnon then went on to explain that it wasn’t her pitch.

“My pitch was that I did this character Sheila Sovage, the barfly. And my pitch was that I would tongue every single person in the cast in line,” McKinnon shared. As Poehler began to crack up, McKinnon said she thought the “alien thing was a little more meaningful and had a better tone” and hence they went with that. When McKinnon then mentioned how everyone narrownly missed sucking her face, Poehler said it would have been “a goodbye tonguing.”

When referring to “the alien thing,” McKinnon was speaking about her final sketch in which she appeared as Colleen Rafferty. This character was known for coming across aliens and always having bad, but funny, encounters with them. On the other hand, the other subjects who met an alien always described a blissful experience. Towards the end of the sketch, during her final show, McKinnon as Rafferty exited the set, waving goodbye to everyone and finally boarding the ship with the aliens.

At the time, McKinnon held the record of the longest time a woman had been part of the show. Furthermore, as a performer on SNL, she won two Emmys back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.
