SNL’s Amy Poehler Discloses 1 Host ‘Fell Asleep’ During Sketch

Amy Poehler has witnessed her fair share of memorable moments during her SNL days. However, one story she recently shared might just take the cake. Talking with fellow alum Kate McKinnon on her Good Hang podcast, Poehler revealed that a guest host actually fell asleep. Funnily enough, that was right in the middle of a sketch rehearsal.

The moment had both comedians cracking up as they reminisced about the beautiful, sleep-deprived madness of life at Saturday Night Live.

Amy Poehler recalls one SNL host ‘fell asleep’ during dress rehearsal for a sketch

Talking about the ups and downs of SNL’s nonstop creative grind on Good Hang Podcast, Amy Poehler and Kate McKinnon couldn’t help laughing about the sketches that tanked.

“Did you ever go on the server and rewatch sketches that bombed?” Poehler asked. “We used to sit there together,” she said to watch their failed dress rehearsals. “Just to process it and remind ourselves that everybody bombs,” the 54-year-old added.

Kate McKinnon burst out laughing as she shared one of her favorite behind-the-scenes moments. She said during a sketch, someone just stopped, sat down on stage, and basically gave up.

“There were a few hits that we would watch over and over again,” McKinnon admitted. “There was one rehearsal where a person — I won’t say who — simply stopped doing the sketch and sat down on the stage. That was a fun watch,” the 41-year-old shared.

Poehler also shared her own hilarious behind-the-scenes story from her SNL days. She remembered when a guest host actually fell asleep right in the middle of a dress rehearsal. McKinnon replied that it made sense with how late everyone stayed up, and the Golden Globe Award-winner agreed.

Earlier this month, Amy Poehler hit a significant milestone with SNL, stepping back in as host for the first time in over ten years, just in time for the show’s 50th anniversary. She said being back in Studio 8H made her nostalgic for her days on the cast.

Even though Poehler and McKinnon never worked on SNL at the same time — the former wrapped in 2008 while the latter joined in 2012 — the two have worked together on other projects. The two have since teamed up several times, including during the SNL 50th anniversary celebration.
