Lily Allen Asserts New Album Is Not ‘Cruel’ or About ‘Revenge’

Lily Allen and David Harbour’s relationship might have hit a rough patch. The duo, who tied the knot in 2020, parted ways earlier this year. Amid the separation news, what stirred a controversy was Allen’s latest album, “West End Girl,” that released on October 24. The singer’s fifth studio album supposedly hints at Harbour’s alleged infidelity. However, the “Not Fair” singer mentioned during an interview that her latest work is not for “revenge” on the actor.

Lily Allen maintains new album is about feelings she was ‘processing at the time’

Lily Allen released her fifth studio album, “West End Girl,” her first in seven years, on October 24. The singer talked about the same in detail, touching upon her personal life during an interview conducted by Mel Ottenberg for Interview Magazine. She discussed openly fame, motherhood, social media, music, and her emotional state while working on the album.

Furthermore, Ottenberg mentioned that he didn’t know where to begin and that he “didn’t write many notes” as she is a “dream to talk to.” Allen said candidly that she doesn’t know if that’s true.

He then asked her if the album should be called a “revenge tour.” The singer simply laughed and mentioned that she took about ten days to write the record and that she “feels very differently about the whole situation now.”

She further added that it’s normal to go through breakups and called them “brutal.” She even mentioned that while splits are difficult to navigate, it’s not often that someone feels “inclined to write about it while you’re in it.”

When Ottenberg asked if she would do that later, the “Lost My Mind” singer said that she was “trying to process things and that’s great in terms of the album.” She further clarified that she doesn’t feel “confused or angry now,” and she most definitely doesn’t “need revenge.”

When asked if she was just telling a story through the album, she candidly said that “some of it is based on truth and some of it is fantasy.”
