Meghan Markle is under scrutiny over her management style after her latest communications director, Emily Robinson, abruptly resigned three months into the role. Royal insiders and commentators suggest that the Duchess of Sussex’s “chaotic” work environment and reported micromanagement may be contributing to the staff turnover.
Expert believes Meghan Markle disagreeing with staff makes them leave
Emily Robinson joined the Sussex team in June. However, she exited from her role recently. Robinson became the tenth publicist to depart since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020. The seasoned PR executive, formerly associated with Netflix, was hired after leading promotional campaigns for “The Crown.”
Sources close to Robinson confirmed that she resigned a few weeks ago, indicating that the working environment fell short of her expectations. Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said she wasn’t surprised by the staff departure, describing working for the Sussexes as “chaotic.” The Majesty Magazine editor-in-chief told The Sun, “It must be quite chaotic working for the Sussexes. They’ve lost so many staff. It’s obvious the job they’re expected to do is not the job they imagined they would have.”
Seward suggested that Meghan’s controlling nature may be the root cause of the high turnover. She said, “It seems to me that Meghan wants to control everything, so they certainly make some quite major PR errors.”
Seward also cited Meghan’s recent Paris Fashion Week appearance as an example of poor PR decision-making. “It was just really bad timing,” she added. The PR chief further stated, “Her PR people would surely have advised her that putting up all these posts is not a good idea. And if posts are to be put up, they should be done by the PR people themselves, not Meghan.”
Seward argued that Meghan’s inability to leave the spotlight may have contributed to Robinson’s decision to quit. “I think it has to stem from Meghan’s personality, because she’s the big boss,” the expert explained.
