Sydney Sweeney recently spoke about which role she would be interested in playing in a new James Bond movie. Recent rumors have suggested that the rising star was in contention to play the Bond girl in the reboot from Amazon MGM Studios. Fueling these rumors are reports that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was keen on seeing Sweeney cast in the role.
Sydney Sweeney talks about James Bond role
Sydney Sweeney recently sat down for an interview in which she talked about major moments from her career and her latest film, Christy. During the discussion, the 28-year-old was asked about the rumors surrounding her involvement in the James Bond reboot.
The two-time Emmy nominee told Variety that she wasn’t aware of the James Bond rumors after briefly hesitating to answer. “I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise,” she said. “And I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it.”
The outlet pressed the subject, asking if she would be interested in playing a role in the film. However, Sweeney replied that her involvement hinged on the film’s script, saying she would “have more fun as James Bond.”
Sweeney’s response comes a few months after The Sun reported, citing a source, that the Euphoria star was “the top name on the casting sheet for Bond.” The outlet reported that the actress was friends with director Denis Villeneuve, who has been tapped to helm the reboot, and also has the backing of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
“Denis believes she is hugely talented,” the source added. “As well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise.” They also shared that the Canadian filmmaker spent time with Sweeney, whose “stratospheric rise” he admired.
“Plus, Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes,” the source further stated. “As well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls.”
As of writing, it’s unknown who will play James Bond in the upcoming movie for Amazon MGM. Deadline reported last month that casting for the new Bond will begin after Villeneuve completes Dune: Part Three. Moreover, the outlet shared that the filmmaker was looking for a “fresh face” for the role.
Besides Villeneuve, the only other known crew members behind the James Bond reboot are Steven Knight, who will write the screenplay, and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman.
