Jennifer Lawrence feared ‘ruining her children’ amid postpartum struggles
Jennifer Lawrence recently got candid about her postpartum anxiety after welcoming her second son this year. Lawrence opened up about her experience of motherhood during an interview with The New Yorker. The “No Hard Feelings” actress revealed that her anxiety was so severe that she thought her baby was dead while sleeping. Moreover, the star feared she would ruin her kids due to her anxiety.
“I just thought every time he was sleeping, he was dead,” she told the outlet. The 35-year-old even believed that her child “cried because he didn’t like his life, or me, or his family.” She was so taken over by the anxiety that the mom of two thought she “was doing everything wrong, and that I would ruin my children.”
Lawrence further revealed that she once started crying while asking ChatGPT a question about breastfeeding. “You’re doing the most amazing thing for your baby,” the actress recalled the AI system telling her, along with saying, “You’re such a loving mother.”
The actress has not just felt this emotion after delivery. Lawrence admitted that, even as a child, she often felt anxious. “I feel like I am driven by anxiety,” she confessed. She further revealed that when she “was a kid,” she soothed her “anxiety by trying to be good, trying to do the right thing, so that I wouldn’t upset God or my parents.”
This is not the only time Lawrence has spoken about motherhood and the feelings it evokes. She did share some of her thoughts and fears about motherhood after Cy’s birth. “It’s so scary to talk about motherhood,” the star told Vogue in 2022. “Only because it’s so different for everybody.”
After giving birth to her oldest son, the actress also felt like her “whole life had started over. Like, ‘Now is day one of my life,’” she confided. However, she did “fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing,” the actress gushed.
