Danai Gurira and Teyana Taylor walk the Vogue World Hollywood runway as Dora Milaje warriors
On the night of October 26, 2025, Vogue held its Vogue World 2025: Hollywood at the iconic Paramount Pictures Studios lot in Los Angeles. Among the many appearances, Danai Gurira and Teyana Taylor’s Black Panther-inspired walk in the sixth act was one of the most impressive.
Celebrating Afrofuturism, the two actresses embodied the Dora Milaje in their iconic armor from the 2018 Black Panther movie. Staying true to the film, the costumes were a one-to-one replica as originally designed by Ruth E. Carter for the MCU movies. Additionally, they also carried Dora Milaje weapons and showcased some combat moves, while background extras danced to a fusion of tribal and upbeat music.
In the Marvel Universe, Dora Milaje are a group of female warriors in the Kingdom of Wakanda. They serve as the kingdom’s special forces and as the personal bodyguard to the ruler of Wakanda. Apart from the Black Panther movies, the Dora Milaje have also appeared in several other MCU projects, such as Avengers: Infinity War and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The recent Vogue show also featured Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, walking the lot in her movie costume.
Ruth E. Carter, who served as the lead costume designer for Black Panther movies, won an Academy Award for both movies in 2019 and 2023, respectively. Outside of the MCU movies, Carter is known for her work on Amistad and Malcom X, both of which earned her Academy Award nominations. She also worked on Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, collaborating with the Black Panther director for a third time.
