Albania’s ‘Pregnant’ AI Minister to Produce 83 Digital Assistants

In what can only be described as a remarkable foray into the realm of Artificial Intelligence, Albania’s AI-generated government minister, Diella, is reportedly pregnant with 83 children, as stated by Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama. Rama made this statement as a joke while announcing a major upgrade. However, Albania’s decision to use an artificial government official marks a significant step forward in AI technology.

Here is a breakdown of what Rama said about Diella being pregnant.

Albania’s AI Minister will provide 83 digital assistants to the parliament

Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that Diella, the first AI minister, is pregnant with 83 children. He used this remark to indicate that the 83 “children” represent virtual assistants assigned to every member of Albania’s Socialist Party.

The AI “children” will reportedly record parliamentary sessions and summarize debates. They will also provide logical advice to the ministers, making it a first-of-its-kind initiative in the world.

“Each one will serve as an assistant,” Rama announced. “If you go for coffee and forget to come back to work, this child will say what was said when you were not in the hall, and who you should counter-attack.” Rama made this announcement during the Berlin Global Dialogue.

The Albanian government appointed Diella as the first-ever AI minister in September, marking a historic milestone for any political system. The National Agency for Information Society of Albania (AKSHI) developed the AI. Diella, which literally means “the sun,” debuted as a Virtual Assistant in January 2025. After assisting the citizens of Albania for months, Diella became the first AI system in the world to hold a cabinet-level government role.

The development also highlights the ongoing global debate surrounding AI. Days ago, Ohio lawmakers introduced a bill that would ban AI from marrying humans or gaining any form of rights. This remains part of a larger conversation about the limits and ethics of artificial intelligence.
