Travis Kelce Approves Chiefs Jersey With Taylor Swift Homage

While Taylor Swift has long been a pioneering figure in the music industry, her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs veteran Travis Kelce now seems to be influencing the NFL as well. The 14-time Grammy winner’s latest studio album has given rise to a new trend, with fans creating custom-made Chiefs jerseys that subtly allude to her connection with Kelce. The phenomenon seems to have caught the three-time Super Bowl winner’s attention as well, who wholeheartedly gave his blessing to the resulting piece of sportswear in a recent discussion.

Travis Kelce talks about custom-made Chiefs Jersey

During the Wednesday, October 22 episode of his New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce shared his thoughts on fans wearing his Chiefs jersey with the word “Redwood” written on it in reference to Taylor Swift’s song “Wood” from her album The Life of a Showgirl.

When his elder brother and podcast co-host, Jason Kelce, asked Travis, “How do we feel about this new trend?” the seasoned footballer simply answered, “I mean, it works for the Chiefs. It does, baby, you know it, man. It works. I haven’t seen that nameplate before, but it’s pretty good.”

The trend began after Swift dropped the song “Wood” and dedicated it to her fiancé, Travis Kelce. In the song, the pop sensation uses the lyric “redwood tree” as a metaphor for her partner’s body, hinting at a sexual innuendo with the said line. With the song going viral since its release, fans have made use of the lyric to come up with a customized Chiefs jersey that showcases Travis Kelce’s iconic 87 number on the back with the word “Redwood” in place of his name.

Considering the growing popularity of such jerseys, many Chiefs fans may show up at the team’s upcoming NFL fixture against the Washington Commanders wearing the apparel. Having won four out of their seven league outings so far, Andy Reid’s men will be looking to etch a fifth win when they take on the Commanders on October 27.
