Well-known for his legendary supporting roles in iconic films like Good Will Hunting and Mamma Mia, Stellan Skarsgård recently talked about nepotism in an interview with Vulture, while promoting his recent film Sentimental Value.

During this interview, he was asked whether he considers his children to be “nepo babies.” He responded by saying, “No. I consider myself a nepo daddy because I get so much goodwill and maybe jobs because of them.”

Flipping the script, he mentioned how his kids almost help him get roles, instead of the other way round. Further, when asked if he ever received an offer because of them, he said, “I don’t know. I know that they haven’t recommended me for anything, because I didn’t recommend them for anything.”

The Swedish actor has 8 children, most of whom are actors today. He further spoke about how his youngest son, 13-year old Kolbjörn, gets called a “nepo baby’ quite often at school. “But my 13-year-old, Kolbjörn, the youngest, suffers from that,” he explained. “When his pals at school call him nepo baby, he gets so sad. He doesn’t have any friends at school. He gets isolated.”

The 74-year old actor then went on to add, “Cruel kids — or cruel and ignorant. They love it on the internet. But it is such a bull—- thing. Because nobody would hire you, at least not for anything good, if you’re not good enough.” While many celebrities have opened up about nepotism and how people use the label, Skarsgård doesn’t seem to see his family as part of that narrative.
