Ireland Baldwin, the daughter of the famous Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, recently shared that she cut ties with some of her “poisonous” family members ahead of her upcoming 30th birthday. She detailed these changes in a new Substack post that she recently published.
Ireland Baldwin reflects on cutting ties with ‘family of narcissists’
Ireland Baldwin recently put up a Substack post entitled “30, Flirty and Surviving.” In it, she reflected on her life so far. She also shared the changes she’s making as she enters a new decade.
Among other things, the 29-year-old revealed that she has cut ties with several family members. She went on to explain why she made that decision.
“I move into 30 with a lot less weight on my shoulders,” Ireland wrote in the post. “This weight that was brought on by the need to continue to carry my narcissistic, unreliable, addict family members who I thought I needed in my life.”
She went on to discuss her troubled childhood, which was affected by her parents’ divorce. During that time, she felt the need to rely on other relatives and made it a habit to try to “win over” their approval. However, she said that over the years, those relationships became toxic for her.
“Nothing was more freeing than finally realizing how poisonous these people are,” she continued. “So, I inch into my thirties with an understanding that this is how you break these cycles.”
Becoming a mother also influenced her decision. Her two-year-old daughter, Holland, played a major role in helping her set boundaries. She added, “My daughter doesn’t have to know these people, and I can protect her from them.” She concluded, “I can do my very best to construct my own idea of a family, piece by piece, and show how a real family treats one another.”
It appears that Ireland Baldwin is entering her thirties with big but meaningful changes in her life.
