Elon Musk’s ex Grimes has got the fans divided about her subtle but striking new face tattoo. The Canadian musician, known for her experimental aesthetics and futuristic style, surprised fans by revealing the nearly invisible design.
Grimes’ new face tattoo has fans talking
On October 22, Grimes revealed her latest tattoo in an Instagram selfie. The delicate ring-like design, placed near her left eye, was so faint that many fans didn’t even notice it at first glance. In her caption, the “Oblivion” singer joked, “Spent like ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo but I guess I drew on my face too much and literally no one noticed.” She added that “not even [her] parents” realized she had the new ink.
The tattoo’s subtlety left many fans puzzled, with some admitting they mistook it for a scar in her new music video for “Artificial Angels,” which premiered Friday. One user commented, “No way, I thought it was a scar while watching Artificial Angels.” Another joked, “Looks like somebody left a moist cup on your face as you slept at night. very cool!” Reactions ranged from confusion to admiration, with one fan writing, “You look like Elon sent you to Mars.” While another admired her creativity: “I love the whole look — A++ adorable, authentic, and adaptable.”
The artwork was created by tattoo artist Glyphomancer, who specializes in cybersigilism. Praising the artist’s unique take, Grimes wrote, “I think @glyphomancer is onto something truly novel and innovative with her work. There’s a true beauty, delicacy, and innovation here imo.” She later took to X (formerly Twitter) to emphasize her love for the new ink, writing, “Idky this face tattoo is imperceptible, but just for the record it’s my fave tat.”
Grimes, who shares three children with tech billionaire Elon Musk, has long been open about her fascination with tattoos. In 2023, she debuted a full leg tattoo made with red ink and previously expressed her desire to be “totally covered” in “alien” tattoos.
