The Strangers – Chapter 2’s Madelaine Petsch on Favorite Final Girl From Horror Movies

The Strangers: Chapter 2’s Madelaine Petsch revealed who her favorite horror final girl is. Furthermore, the actress believes that “even a bad horror film is still a good horror film” and she’ll “watch them all.”

Madelaine Petsch reveals Ripley from Alien franchise as favorite horror movie final girl

During an interview with People, Madelaine Petsch was asked who her favorite horror movie final girl is.

Petsch responded, “I think my favorite is probably Ripley from Alien,” referring to Sigourney Weaver’s role in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi/horror film, Alien.

The Riverdale actress shared that she loves shark movies. She also named Climax by Gaspar Noé and Weapons by Zach Cregger as “great, sophisticated” horror movies. “I love them all. Even a bad horror film is still a good horror film. If I enjoyed it and it’s a fun ride, that’s all I really care about. I can find good in anything,” she shared.

The question is fitting as Petsch is now part of the final girl trope herself. This is thanks to her role in the latest installment, The Strangers: Chapter 2. Petsch first played Maya in The Strangers: Chapter 1. She reprised her role in Chapter 2 and will return in Chapter 3, completing the trilogy. The series serves as a reboot of 2008’s The Strangers. It follows a couple hunted by three masked “strangers” who are trying to kill them.

Petsch explained in the interview how playing Cheryl Blossom on Riverdale shaped her for the Strangers franchise. The 31-year-old actress said, “There are so many horror elements in Riverdale. I think I had to do a 15-second scream once on that show. So it definitely felt like I had the bones within me.”

While “it is definitely tiring” to shoot intense scenes, Petsch shared that she has yet to come up with a way to unwind from the stress of shooting such scenes. “I realized I don’t have a good decompression system and I need to figure that out, but usually I would try to dispel all of the tension and the anxiety with laughing,” Petsch shared.
