Princess Diana tied the knot with Prince Charles in 1981, and the couple separated in 1996. The Princess of Wales was celebrated for her impeccable fashion style, often blending elegance with comfort and style. She loved wearing different brands, including Chanel. However, Princess Diana reportedly stopped wearing Chanel following her divorce, because the logo reminded her of the betrayal she experienced in her marriage.
Chanel logo was a ‘painful’ reminder of Princess Diana’s past
Princess Diana always carried herself with grace, and her style inspired many. She loved wearing brands, which included Chanel. However, the then Princess of Wales stopped wearing Chanel following her divorce. Apparently, the label’s logo, the double interlocking C’s, reminded her of the betrayal she had by Prince Charles because of his then-affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
A royal source claimed, “For Diana, clothes always carried meaning – they reflected how she felt as much as how she looked. Chanel had once been a favorite, but after the divorce, the double Cs took on a different weight. What used to stand for elegance came to represent pain.”
The source at RadarOnline further added that the logo reminded her of Charles and Camilla. And once that connection was made, Princess Diana “couldn’t bring herself to wear it again.”
Jayson Brundson, the Australian designer, recalled the time when he suggested the then Princess of Wales wear a pair of Chanel shoes, which she declined, stating she “can’t wear linked Cs, the double C.” Brundson revealed that he asked her why, and she replied, “It’s Camilia and Charles.”
Princess Diana and Prince Charles got married in 1981. They have Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and William, Prince of Wales, as their sons. The couple parted ways in 1996, and one of the reasons behind their separation was Charles’s affair with Parker-Bowles.
