In the wake of Maggie‘s return to Grey’s Anatomy in Season 22, Kelly McCreary has opened up about the character’s future on the series. McCreary, who first joined the Grey’s Anatomy cast in Season 10 as the half-sister of Dr. Meredith Grey, revealed in a recent interview that she is more than willing to reprise her role on the show in future seasons if asked.

While speaking to Soaps.com, the Wisconsin-born actress not only addressed her future in Grey’s Anatomy but also shed light on the role Maggie’s surprise pregnancy could play in Season 22.
“I love going back to Grey’s Anatomy,” said McCreary after Maggie’s return to the series. She added, “It feels like going home — that’s absolutely my family,” And I love the way that we closed out Maggie’s storyline over the long term on the show with a sense that she would continue sort of doing what she was doing at Grey Sloan, but just in another, bigger capacity. So whenever there’s a really fantastic storyline like this one to come back for, I have to stay open to that. Maggie’s still out there, and I’d love to find out what’s going on with her. As long as the audience is interested, then I’m happy to come back.”
McCreary’s Maggie made her Grey’s Anatomy debut in the penultimate episode of the 10th season before making a return as a series regular in Season 11. She held her position as a primary cast member until the 19th season, before switching to a guest role.
Now that Maggie has returned with a surprise pregnancy, McCreary believes that the Grey’s Anatomy writers “have something major in mind” for her character. “I can’t imagine that Amelia and Meredith will not be looped in and involved in their new niece or nephew’s life,” the Scandal alum noted.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 has premiered two episodes so far, with the remaining 16 episodes set to follow a Thursday-release pattern.
