Keanu Reeves starred in The Replacements back in 2000 as a quarterback. It was a sports comedy film inspired by the 1987 NFL Strike. It focused on a players’ strike when a football team still had four games to go. They then strategize and end with replacement players for the games. During that year, the Washington Redskins won the Super Bowl. It was a result of winning three replacement games without their regular players.
During filming, Keanu Reeves, who played quarterback Shane Falcon, practiced football regularly under his coaches’ guidance. However, seeing him play, it is rumored that the Ravens wanted to give him a tryout.
Keanu Reeves shares whether Ravens tried getting him into the NFL after his QB role
Keanu Reeves recently appeared on the New Heights podcast with the Kelce brothers, where he discussed his role in The Replacements. He was coached by football coordinators Allan Graf and Mark Ellis. He underwent an intense training camp to do justice to his role as quarterback Shane Falcon.
Admiring his role in the film, Travis Kelce noted that he was one of the “most convincing film QBs of all time.” He revealed on the podcast that it is one of his favorite movies to watch, then clarified whether The Ravens approached Keanu Reeves after The Replacement for a tryout.
To this, the actor replied, “That’s absolutely nonsense. I mean, my release would’ve obviously been lefty. I don’t know why, but we tend to have a lower release. Getting that ball out was a little slow. Could do like 50-yard corner, or I could hit all of the routes. 3-step, 5-step, then a long seven. But you know, don’t start believing you can really do it.”
The trio shared a laugh at this, and soon, Jason Kelce noted that Keanu Reeves did not need to be great because the Ravens were not good either during their 2000s games.
