Richard Gere recalled filming moments with the late Diane Keaton in the 1977 crime-thriller movie Looking for Mr. Goodbar. He shared details about their intimate scenes together and explained how they took care of each other while performing such challenging sequences. In the movie, Keaton and Gere portrayed Theresa and Tony, respectively.

In a conversation on the Today Show, Gere opened up on his intimate scenes with the late Keaton on the sets of Looking for Mr. Goodbar. He said, “That was a difficult film. It was a very raw, sexual film, and [Keaton was] pretty shy and skittish, and I was too. It was my second film. And we kind of took care of each other getting through these challenging physical scenes with each other.” (via Independent)
This recollection of their old film came in the wake of Keaton’s death at age 79. She passed away at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. Her family released a statement to PEOPLE confirming her cause of death. It read, “The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11.”
Requesting people to donate in her loving memory, it further added, “She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”
After doing their first movie together in 1977, Gere and Keaton collaborated again over four decades later. The two reunited for a romance-comedy movie titled Maybe I Do. The film was directed by Michael Jacobs and centered around Michelle and Allen. They call their parents to meet each other at a time when their relationship happens to be shaky.
In an unexpected turn of events, it turns out their parents know each other too well.
