The penultimate episode of HBO’s Task series shocked everyone by killing off two major characters, setting up a high-octane finale. Reflecting on the devastating yet expected death of Robbie, actor Tom Pelphrey, who portrayed the said character in six Task episodes, noted in a recent interview that this was the only way his story could’ve ended, given the creative setting of the thrilling crime drama.
Tom Pelphrey wanted Robbie to be in ‘Canada with his family’ in Task
The Banshee alum recently opened up about the twisted death of Robbie in Task Episode 6, stating that he dearly wanted the character to have a happy ending.
“The part of me that becomes joined with Robbie, which is the goal that you have every time, wants him to succeed and be in Canada with his family,” Tom Pelphrey remarked while speaking with Collider. He added, “I desperately wanted that, and I was trying to play the truth of that throughout every scene I’m in.”
Nevertheless, Pelphrey also understood as an actor that it wouldn’t have been a realistic outcome if Robbie were to evade the consequences of his actions. “The part of me that’s the actor who appreciates structure and story is looking at it and saying, ‘This has to go the way it’s going to go. If we’re going to be honest and tell the truth about how this is going to play out, that’s how this has to go,'” he noted.
In Task Episode 6, Tom Pelphrey’s Robbie finally meets his end after sustaining a fatal knife wound at the hands of his Dark Hearts nemesis Jayson, played by Sam Keeley. While Tom (Mark Ruffalo) tries his best to save a bleeding Robbie, the conflicted family man ultimately succumbs to his injuries.
Additionally, the episode sees Alison Oliver’s Lizzie bite the dust after the notorious Jayson and Perry run her over while driving away from the crime scene.
The HBO miniseries is set to conclude its hard-hitting narrative with a final seventh episode, which will premiere on October 19.
