Prince Harry currently receives limited “bespoke” security only when specific visits to the UK are deemed necessary. Last week, he allegedly sent a letter to the Home Secretary and requested a new evaluation from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC). The Prince reportedly claimed that the last review took place in 2019. “It’s not going to help matters,” one source told RadarOnline.com. “We’re back to where we were.”
The King and the Duke of Sussex last met in September for a private 50-minute tea at Clarence House, their first meeting in 19 months, shortly after Harry publicly expressed his wish for reconciliation. However, palace aides reportedly worry that the Duke’s renewed demands have jeopardized those earlier hopes.
Palace sources clarified that the King “cannot and will not lobby” government officials on behalf of his son. “If you put yourself in the mind of a father who is repeatedly told he should and could intervene, that is not very helpful,” one insider said.” They further explained that it “complicates matters and shows a lack of understanding about the reality.”
Harry, meanwhile, reportedly feels frustrated and isolated. After losing his appeal in May, he called the decision “a good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up.” The Prince also expressed disappointment that his father had not stepped in. “I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” he told the BBC.
The Duke of Sussex remains determined to secure protection that would allow him to safely bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and children Archie and Lilibet to the UK. A friend of the Duke said, “All he’s asking is for RAVEC to abide by its own rules.”
