Dawson’s Creek’s Busy Philipps Talks Pacey’s ‘Wild’ Relationship With Teacher

Busy Philipps recently shared her candid views about a plot from her former show, Dawson’s Creek. She did not join the cast of the show until Season 5; however, she recalled an inappropriate relationship from the very first season of Dawson’s Creek between Joshua Jackson’s Pacey and Leann Hunley’s Tamara.

Busy Philipps reflects on relationship between Joshua Jackson’s Pacey and his teacher Tamara

The Dawson’s Creek alumna opened up about her thoughts on the controversial relationship in the show’s first season. As Pacey (Joshua Jackson) grows increasingly attracted to his 36-year-old teacher, Tamara (Leann Hunley), they become romantically involved. This ultimately leads to him losing his virginity to her.

First referring to her character Audrey, and Pacey’s relationship, Busy Philipps told PEOPLE, “They’re not even together.” She added, “He’s going to have a really, insanely inappropriate relationship with a teacher, which by the way, is so wild. And just goes to show you culturally how much we have changed for the better, right?”

Philipps joined the show as Audrey Liddell during Season 5 as Pacey’s girlfriend. Very recently, the cast of Dawson’s Creek showed up at the Dawson’s Creek Class Reunion charity event. It also included a reading of the pilot episode by them. During this reading, Philipps played the part of Leann Hunley’s Tamara, the teacher and former love interest of Pacey Witter.

The White Chicks actress also shared a glimpse at a joke between her and the series creator, Kevin Williamson. She first mentioned how he didn’t write her character into Dawson’s Creek. “He was already long gone from the show when they went to college, and my character was added,” the 46-year-old explained.

Busy Philipps then shared, “After the show, I said, ‘Well, Kevin, I guess you did write a part for me on Dawson’s Creek. You just didn’t know that it would take 20 years for me to be the right age to play it,'” as she referred to playing Tamara at the event.

Previously, Joshua Jackson also reflected on his character Pacey’s relationship with Tamara on Dawson’s Creek. He told Business Insider, “I think it is real for a younger person to have sexual desires for an older person. But I think the onus remains upon the older person to be the adult and recognize that that’s inappropriate.”

Jackson further emphasized that it is important to depict human mistakes through on-screen storylines. Additionally, he clarified that the relationship wasn’t depicted as “a beautiful or romantic thing.”
