Channing Tatum recently discussed his experience filming a naked scene for his new movie, Roofman. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that filming the scene was incredibly embarrassing. In the film, Tatum plays Jeffrey Manchester, a real-life robber who became famous for breaking into stores via roofs. The film’s story sees Manchester residing at a Toys “R” Us store for six months after escaping prison.
Channing Tatum on how filming a scene without a ‘thong’ turned into his ‘worst nightmare’
The 22 Jump Street actor recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he promoted Roofman and discussed his return to the role of Marvel comics character Gambit in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. During their discussion, Fallon brought up the scene in Roofman where Jeffrey Manchester encounters Peter Dinklage’s Mitch while taking a shower at the Toys “R” Us store. The comedian asked Channing Tatum if filming the scene was “embarrassing.”
“Yeah!” Tatum replied. “I don’t care what you feel about how confident you are with everything going on. It’s your worst nightmare.” The Fly Me to the Moon actor added that he was the only one naked on set while everyone else was clothed. “It’s the ultimate worst nightmare,” he further stated.
Channing Tatum shared that he would usually wear a thong, underwear, or a sock for naked scenes, which wasn’t the case for Roofman. “I show up on the day and I’m like, ‘So how are we gonna film this?'” Tatum recalled. “I read over it in the script and I was like, ‘Yeah, there’s gonna be a plan for that…'”
Tatum further recalled how director Derek Cianfrance told him he didn’t know how they were going to shoot the naked scene. “And I’m like, ‘What? What do you mean you don’t know how we’re gonna shoot this? And he’s like, ‘We’ll figure it out,'” the 45-year-old added.
The Magic Mike star said that he had to jump on a bike rack for the scene. He added that the camera was “right down the proverbial barrel.” Further, Tatum recalled that he “dissociated throughout the day.” However, he praised his scene partner Peter Dinklage.
Tatum revealed that once filming wrapped, Cianfrance called him, asking what to do with the scene and whether he should “blur it out.” The former recalled telling the latter not to make the scene “look weird” and not make it “NC-17.”
