Jason Kelce Slams Critics After Travis Kelce’s Touchdown Debate: ‘They Don’t Know the Rule’

The Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce have faced their fair share of criticism in the last few weeks due to their underwhelming on-field performances this season. While Travis’ elder brother, Jason Kelce, has been one of the said critics, he recently backed his sibling while discussing a controversial touchdown in the Chiefs’ NFL matchup vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. He not only validated the play in question but also lambasted those who had been inciting controversy regarding the touchdown’s legitimacy.

On the October 8 episode of their podcast, the Kelce brothers conducted an in-depth of the Chiefs’ recent 31-28 defeat by the Jaguars. During it, the duo also brought up a controversial touchdown call from the first quarter that ultimately favored Kelce’s side.

With much chatter going around the said touchdown, Jason Kelce decided to hit back at all the debaters. “A lot of people talking about the contact or whatever. They don’t know the rule, within a yard, yada yada yada,” he said on the New Heights podcast.

Moreover, Travis pointed out the Chiefs’ 14 penalties as being the reason behind their loss. Agreeing with this, Jason further called both sides’ performance “sloppy,” but also praised the Jaguars’ quarterback, Trevor Lawrence.

In the first quarter of the October 6 game, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce to secure a crucial touchdown for the Chiefs. However, officials soon flagged the play due to a suspected offensive pass interference from JuJu Smith-Schuster. A brief discussion among the referees followed. After it, they decided to waive off any foul play, allowing the touchdown to stand.

This decision ended up inciting an intense conversation on the internet. Many NFL fans argued that Travis Kelce’s touchdown should not have stood due to the contentious contact that occurred right before the catch. Nevertheless, the touchdown ultimately failed to help the Chiefs. They lost the bout by three points, bringing their 2025-26 NFL record to 2-3.

The Kansas City Chiefs will now be looking to overturn their fortunes in their Sunday clash against the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile, Travis Kelce will hope to etch his name in the club’s history by beating Priest Holmes’ record for the most touchdowns in Chiefs history in the next game.
