Fans react to Scarlett Johansson as Mother Gothel
According to new reports, Scarlett Johansson is being considered for the role of Mother Gothel in the Tangled live-action remake.
The possibility of Johansson’s casting as Mother Gothel has sparked a variety of reactions. One user commented on X (formerly Twitter) that the 40-year-old would “slay” the role.
“This role would be perfect for her,” another added.
“Yes She Would Be Awesome,” yet another user shared.
However, some fans have suggested Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn as an optimal choice for the role.
It remains to be seen whether the Jurassic World Rebirth star will assume the role of Mother Gothel. Notably, casting for the film hasn’t been finalized.
Mother Gothel is loosely based on Dame Gothel from the original German Rapunzel tale. In Tangled, she is depicted as an old woman who uses a magical gold flower’s healing powers to remain eternally young and beautiful. However, Gothel soon loses access to the powers when the flower is harvested and used to cure the kingdom’s ill queen. The queen’s daughter, Rapunzel, ends up inheriting the powers.
Gothel attempts to take a tendril from Rapunzel’s hair, but realizes that its powers go when cut. The former then kidnaps Rapunzel in an attempt to exploit her powers and imprisons her in an isolated tower for 18 years. Gothel poses as Rapunzel’s mother to discourage the princess from escaping, and convinces her that the world is full of dangerous people eager to steal her hair for selfish purposes.
As per Deadline, Michael Gracey is reportedly linked with the project as the live-action Tangled remake’s director, while Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is said to write the screenplay.
