Prince William’s stand on changing the monarchy has recently caught everyone’s attention. During his candid conversation with Eugene Levy on Apple TV+’s show, “The Reluctant Traveler,” the Prince of Wales shared some valuable insight. He openly talked about the changes he would like to bring to the monarchy when the time comes. However, according to insiders, his vision for the empire doesn’t mean any criticism of his father, King Charles.
Prince William didn’t criticize his father when he said he wants to bring change, says source
Prince William and King Charles seemingly share a close and understanding bond. Hence, sources clarified that the future king’s wish to bring change in the monarchy doesn’t criticize his father’s way of leading the empire. The news came after the Prince of Wales made a guest appearance on Eugene Levy’s show, “The Reluctant Traveler.”
The heir had a candid chat with the “Schitt’s Creek” alum about the future of the monarchy, his family, and his vision. William insisted that “change” was on his “agenda.” He revealed that he’s not afraid of amendments, as “history can be a real weight.”
Reacting to the prince’s thoughts, historian Robert Lacey told PEOPLE, “This shouldn’t be seen as criticism of King Charles.” He clarified that the eldest son has been a great “supporter” of his father throughout the latter’s journey. William reportedly meant that he wanted to define his path by bringing some positive changes, while respecting the traditions.
Another source, a biographer named Andrew Morton, also shared his opinion on William’s candid conversation. The author of “Winston and the Windsors” claimed that the words “monarchy” and “change” generally didn’t match well. He mentioned that it’s a “delicate mechanism.”
Meanwhile, another insider praised the 43-year-old for being “quite vocal” about his vision. They appreciated that Prince William seemed to know what he would do with the monarchy when the time came. “[To be] more accessible, more approachable,” the palace insider added.
