Amy Sherman-Palladino on who could be the father of Rory’s baby on Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to mark the show’s 25th anniversary and discussed the mystery surrounding the identity of the father of Rory’s baby.
The mystery around the baby’s father is one of the unresolved parts of the ending of 2016’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which is a revival mini-series of the original 2000 show. After it was revealed that Rory was pregnant in the mini-series, fans were left speculating about who the father of the baby is. Fans aren’t sure yet if it is Jess, Logan, or some other unknown character. The mini-series ended with this cliffhanger and Sherman-Palladino discussed it in the interview.
She stated that the “cliffhanger was intentional because the story was about history repeating itself and about mothers and daughters.” Sherman-Palladino further conveyed that she knows “who the father was and I know what the baby was,” but she refused to disclose it, stating, “that stays in my mind.”
She added, “It really to me was much less about who the boy was, but more about what the circumstance was. My thing was: Always focus on what the girls are doing, and what’s the story between the mother and the daughter, because that’s what the show is. We have wonderful boys, and all the romances were wonderful. I know people are very invested in them, and all the boys are extremely handsome and delightful to stare at, but honestly, the show is about the girls.”
