Jason George says ‘not everybody makes it out’ in Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 premiere
Grey’s Anatomy star Jason George told Soaps.com that viewers should “keep tissues handy” for Thursday’s Season 22 premiere, describing it as “deadly” and adding, “I think it’s safe to say that not everybody makes it out.”
His character, Dr. Ben Warren, was among the few outside Grey Sloan Memorial during the Season 21 explosion. The blast left the fate of several doctors, including his wife Dr. Miranda Bailey, uncertain. George confirmed that Ben survived the blast, saying, “I didn’t get blown up. That much I know.”
He revealed that Ben was leaving the hospital before the blast and hoped the crisis would showcase his first-responder skills. “My hope is that the hospital having an explosive finale is going to give Ben a chance to show some of the skills that he’s gained,” George said.
The actor noted that the upcoming episode would feature Ben risking his life to save others, saying, “Is it the smart thing to do? No. Is it what I’m going to do? Yes.” George further stated that Ben reacts instinctively, especially when Miranda is in danger. “To everybody else, she’s Dr. Bailey. That’s his Miranda. So Ben’s going to kick in doors and do whatever he’s got to do to find her,” he added.
George described the premiere’s table read as “a whole other level of electric” as the cast learned which characters survived. He credited showrunner Meg Marinis for keeping the series “as smart, every bit as sexy, as it’s ever been,” adding that she knows how to “get all the feels out of it.”
Season 22 premieres Thursday, October 9 at 10/9c on ABC.
