Nicole Kidman’s past dig at ex-husband Tom Cruise has resurfaced on the internet amid her divorce from Keith Urban. For those unversed, Kidman and Cruise tied the knot on December 24, 1990, and announced their separation in February 2001. The couple was legally divorced by August of the same year.

The Perfect Couple star took a witty dig at ex-husband Tom Cruise on Late Night with David Letterman, days before her divorce. She made an appearance on the chat show to promote her film, The Others.

In a throwback video, dated August 2, 2001, David Letterman wasted no time and asked the burning question on everyone’s lips: “I heard you’re getting divorced — how’s that going?” Nicole Kidman chuckled in response.

Letterman then proceeded to lighten up the situation by saying, “But you know what I’m saying, it’s none of my business. I hope things are alright, and I’m guessing things are alright or you wouldn’t be here, would ya?” You can watch the moment at the 1-minute 26-second mark.

To this, Kidman replied, “I think I’d probably still be here,” slightly uncomfortable with the personal question. She proceeded to take a sip of the coffee. The veteran talk show host attempted to make her comfortable by complimenting her, “You look fantastic.”

The Babygirl actress, still awkward, couldn’t stop chuckling and stated, “Thank you. I don’t know how to take this. Well, I can wear heels now,” pointing to the black box heels she was wearing. Letterman and the live audience roared with laughter.

Fans quickly understood it was a snarky comment towards Tom Cruise’s short height, as well as the height difference between the couple. Kidman took a moment to enjoy the applause. Furthermore, she declared, “Okay, let’s move on now,” maintaining a dignified smile. Unsurprisingly, David Letterman couldn’t help but praise her wicked sense of humor by saying, “That’s pretty funny.”

Nicole Kidman married her second husband, Keith Urban, in June 2006, and they share two daughters aged 17 and 14. She also shares two adopted children, Bella and Connor, with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. Interestingly, Kidman is taller than both her ex-partners.

TMZ was the first to report that Kidman and her husband, Keith Urban, have separated.

Shortly after, the 58-year-old actress told PEOPLE that she had filed for divorce just a day after their separation in Nashville, where the couple resides.
