Community’s Yvette Nicole Brown & Ken Jeong Reunite Ahead of Reunion Movie

The long-promised Community movie is inching closer to reality, and the study group is already getting the band back together. In an unexpected prelude to the film, actors Yvette Nicole Brown and Ken Jeong reunited over the weekend.

Yvette Nicole Brown honors Community co-star Ken Jeong with new award

The catalyst for this mini-reunion was the 15th annual Catalina Film Festival, where Yvette Nicole Brown went to present her former co-star, Ken Jeong, with the prestigious King of Comedy award. She praised her longtime friend, and in true Jeong fashion, the comedian turned the moment into a sweet comedy bit.

According to the festival’s press release, Jeong affectionately called Brown “bubby” several times during his speech, even planting a kiss on her cheek after accepting the award. He reflected on his unique career journey — transitioning from practicing medicine to playing doctors and comedic misfits on screen.

Jeong also credited his wife, Dr. Tran Ho, for being his biggest supporter. Never missing a chance for laughs, he jokingly suggested the festival rename his title from “King” to “Emperor of Comedy.” The production team playing along updated the award onscreen mid-speech. (via Entertainment Weekly)

This Community reunion fueled the immense anticipation for the officially confirmed Community movie, which Peacock greenlit in 2022 after acquiring the series’ library. The project fulfills the iconic six seasons and a movie prophecy first uttered by Danny Pudi’s character, Abed Nadir, about another show. For years, this phrase became a rallying cry for fans of the sitcom, which followed a quirky study group at the fictional Greendale Community College.

The original cast, including Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, and Donald Glover, as well as Brown and Jeong, is expected to return for the film. Although the project is officially underway, filming has not yet commenced. However, Jeong has read the script. “It made me emotional, and just brought me right back,” he revealed to TV Insider. “There is a script, there is a plan. We just don’t know when [it will happen].”
