Ice-T says Fin will be back and isn’t leaving Law & Order: SVU
Ice-T confirmed that his character, Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, is not leaving Law & Order: SVU despite speculation following the Season 27 premiere. On September 26, 2025, he addressed fans on X, writing, “SVU fans wanna know how I got Fd up on last nights Episode….? It was in the Script.. Lol Don’t worry you already know ‘I’ll be back.’” The actor has played Fin since Season 2, making him one of the show’s longest-running cast members alongside Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Olivia Benson.
In the Season 27 premiere, an assailant injured Fin while he tried to stop an attack, sending him to the hospital. The assailant stole his weapon, and detectives Terry Bruno and Joe Velasco later tracked down the suspect and recovered it. Fin initially kept the situation from Benson to protect her, but she confronted him after Amanda Rollins revealed the truth. Their conversation referenced retirement, with Fin admitting, “It’s crossed my mind. I don’t want to do this forever.”
Later, Benson told Fin, “If you are willing to throw away all the years that we have worked together, all the trust that we have built, then maybe you should retire.” Fin assured her he wasn’t leaving, responding, “I’m not throwing anything away. And I’m not ready to retire until I earn your trust back.” Although Fin acknowledged the attack made him consider whether it was “a message for me to get out while I still can,” he committed to staying on the squad.
As Fin recovers, Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan informed Benson she would be adding someone new to the team. She explained that this addition is someone she has known since childhood.
