Keke Palmer recently addressed a TikTok video that has gone viral, in which a college student boldly asked her out. In her video, the actress started with, “How you doing young man?” She praised his courage and noted the age difference. “I heard all the nice things you said about me, and you’re so bold for doing so. I was kinda gagged when I found out I was 11 years older than you.”
Palmer added, “That means when you were born, I was already winning spelling bees. That means, when you were learning how to talk, I was already jumping rope.” She continued, explaining her stance, saying that while she might be open to “a little swirl or two,” she was not prepared to be “cougar.” The actress added, “But if I was, you’d be the first one I was calling.”
The video that sparked Palmer’s response was posted by college student Cole Smith. In it, he explained how watching Palmer on Hot Ones with Sean Evans inspired him to reach out. Noticing the playful banter between Palmer and Evans, and learning that Palmer was not married, Smith decided to shoot his shot. He said, “I’m throwing my hat in the ring.”
In the clip, Smith highlighted the reasons why Palmer should date him. He says, “Wouldn’t you rather be with a college student that forgot to shave this morning? I mean look at that scruff.” He continued with lighthearted reasons, including offering Nutri-Grain bars. Despite being 11 years younger than Palmer, he brushed off the age difference.
Since posting, Smith’s video went viral, accumulating more than 10 million views and thousands of comments. Speaking to PEOPLE about Palmer’s reply, Smith said, “I started freaking out. Ms. Palmer is a legend for responding. Go see her new movie!”
