Matthew McConaughey recently recalled the rather surprising circumstances surrounding his dad’s demise in 1992. The actor first revealed the story of his father’s death in his 2020 memoir, but has now recounted the rather bizarre circumstances around his death in a new interview. Matthew McConaughey talks about his dad’s death
As revealed by Matthew McConaughey in his memoir, his dad’s death was from a heart attack. But he had a heart attack while having sex. As per Matthew, it was his father’s wish to die making love to his partner and his mother, Mary Kathleen “Kay” McConaughey.
After talking about it in his memoir, the actor recently spoke about his father, James Donald McConaughey’s death, in a new interview with The Guardian. “When I got that call, it was a Monday afternoon, and I was in Austin, and they were in Houston. Mom said, ‘Your dad has moved on,’ but she didn’t tell me on the initial call how. When I got back, she told me,” he recalled.
He continued, “They hauled him out on the gurney, and they tried to cover him up, and my mom’s in the driveway, and she pulled the sheet off him. It was 7:30 a.m….My understanding is that they made love that morning about 6:30 a.m., and as soon as they finished having sex, he had a heart attack.”
In his memoir, Matthew had said that his father “was the abominable snowman, the immovable force, a bear of a man, with the immune system of a Viking and the strength of a bull.” He also claimed no one could kill him, except perhaps his mother.
James McConaughey and Mary Kathleen McConaughey were together for 24 years despite being on and off numerous times.
