Matthew McConaughey shares how his brothers reacted to him rejecting rom-coms

Matthew McConaughey recently sat down with The Guardian and revealed he got scolded by his brothers for refusing to do rom-coms.

McConaughey went on a break from Hollywood as he wanted to land roles that were outside of the romantic comedy genre. However, he kept getting rom-com offers, which he continuously rejected. Speaking of his brothers’ reaction to his acting break, the actor said, “My brothers were like: ‘Little brother, what is your major mal-f—–g-function? What are you thinking?’ And I was like: ‘No, this is clear to me and Camila, we’re going to do this. We’re not going to pull parachute. We’re gonna ride this.’ And 20 months later, the levee broke and the offers came in that I wanted.”

In another conversation on The Diary of a CEO podcast, McConaughey recalled how he turned down an offer worth $14.5 million for a rom-com. The Interstellar star noted, “I was getting quantity, but I wasn’t getting the quality. What I want to do is dramas, but Hollywood won’t offer me one, no matter how big a pay cut I take. If I can’t do what I want to do, I’m going to quit doing what I’ve been doing. No more rom-coms.”

He revealed that he got offers worth $8 million, $12 million, and $14.5 million. However, he read the script and rejected it, even after being impressed with the draft.
