Bumble Founder Wanted To Have Swiped Canceled for This Reason

Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble, reportedly tried to have Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s movie Swiped, which is now streaming on Hulu, canceled. In a new revelation, the CEO said that she had originally tried to “shut it down,” but Lily James’ portrayal flattered her, leaving her in a conflicted stance. Moreover, Herd admitted to not being able to watch the trailer.

Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd thought Swiped movie trailer was “weird”

The Bumble founder and CEO recently spoke about the Hulu film that was based on her. Coming in line with many new movies about tech CEOs, Swiped explores Herd’s rise to become the youngest self-made female billionaire in a male-dominated field.

However, Whitney Wolfe Herd was initially not ready to share her story. “So, I can’t make it through the whole trailer; it’s too weird for me,” she told CNBC, “No, I’m not involved in it. Frankly, I was informed about this movie after it was already off to the races. I think they had already written the script and done all these things.”

Herd continued about how she tried to shut it down. “I even was asking my lawyer two years ago, ‘What do I do? I don’t want a movie about me. Shut it down!’ He was like, ‘There’s nothing you can do. You’re somewhat of a public figure. There’s public information out there, they’re going to do what they’re going to do.,” she said.

Whitney Wolfe Herd added, “I don’t know if I’m going to watch it or not. I’m obviously both terrified, and maybe slightly flattered? But I think the strangeness and the fear of it outweighs any flattery. Listen, we’ll just see. I guess I gotta get some popcorn and stay tuned. But I am honored that they chose Lily James, she’s a talented actress.”

All in all, it seems that the Bumble founder is still conflicted about the film.

Meanwhile, Swiped is now streaming on Hulu.
